The profession of the Travel Designer, also called Travel Planner, is to create a customised trip according to the desires and budget of the client. A travel designer most often does not have a destination specialisation and every holiday he designs is bespoke. He charges a fixed fee per project and does not take commissions, since he does not do the bookings.
A travel agent delivers a turnkey tour or holiday and does all the bookings on behalf of his clients. His business model is based on the fees he implicitly charges to his clients for the holiday design and planning, and the commission he takes on every booking he makes, which result in a compound final price for the clients. A travel agent often works with a destination specialisation and pre-designed tour canvas.
